Valant Electronic Health Records (EHR) software has been designed specifically to meet the needs of mental and behavioral health practice. Electronic Health Records (EHR) offers tools for providers to streamline documentation, increase efficiency, and enhance the productivity of their healthcare practice.
The fully integrated suite offers secure patient records, data documentation, patient scheduling, Practice Management (PM) software, and a patient portal. Valant EMR emphases exclusively on behavioral health that is why users don’t have to navigate through billing codes and documentation templates made for other physician specialties.
Valant features a library of outcome measures for doctors to utilize and track over time. Patients can go through these assessments from their homes using the Patient Portal, or in a live session with the clinician. The results are documented in clinical notes and securely stored in patient records.
The data documentation templates provide click-to-narrative technology to decrease typing and simplify the creation of structured notes. That is why the software is completely incorporated, information like diagnosis and medication is pulled directly into the note from the patient charts.
The Practice Management (PM) suite allows users to generate fee charges directly from the calendar, eliminating manual data entry. The extensive reporting feature enables users to manage all aspects of the revenue cycle as well as other clinical and appointment reports.
If you are a medical practice looking for a top Electronic Health Records (EHR) software system that has been developed for behavioral health practices, then Valant EHR might just be the right system for you.

Pros: They have great customer service. The revenue and practice management aspects are fantastic.
Cons: For clinicians, documentation is cumbersome and lacks efficiencies. The treatment does not communicate with the initial assessment or other notes. Information obtained in the initial assessment must be re-entered into the treatment plan. The presenting problem does not pull into the treatment plan and the goals and objectives do not pull into the progress notes. There is no termination note available. To move between sections in a note or the initial assessment, you must click on a tab or on "next," always taking at least one hand off the keyboard. The language used in the automated documentation of assessments lacks professionalism. It includes many passive sentences, contractions, and inconsistencies. Contractions are used. In one document "a.m." is used instead of "morning." This is a lot of work to fix and quite disappointing. The treatment planer was sold as having goals and objectives to pick from and pull into the treatment planner. Again, an item that was over-sold. There are no goals for some diagnoses. It is a laborious process. I went back to using Wylie.
Verdict: There are a lot of great features and promises of things to come. Promises are not products. I am concerned the lack of connection between the initial assessment, treatment planner, and progress notes opens me up to an insurance audit finding my documentation inadequate. This is something that I want my EHR to protect me from, not increase my vulnerability.
