Google Cloud and Epic EMR Software solution, the largest software vendor in the United States have collaborated to allow Epic hospital clients to run EHR systems on Google Cloud, this was unveiled on Monday at the HLTH conference in Las Vegas. This healthcare partnership will give healthcare providers more choices on the cloud, and new accelerators which can facilitate hospitals to do more with their data.
Healthcare organizations to benefit from the health IT partnership
Hackensack Meridian Health based in New Jersey will be the first healthcare organization to host its Epic electronic health records software to the Google Cloud. This will allow the 17-hospital system to leverage tech-enabled analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) more smoothly and also take advantage of the extra security and protection offered by the cloud. By shifting to the cloud organizations can reduce threats from human errors and enable systems to see if they are running securely. If for instance there has been an exposure, the proactive Google cloud technology will identify it promptly and the exposed area can be locked for maximum protection.
Healthcare IT partnership insights 2022
- When cloud companies like Google sign a contract with large software vendors it also expands their reach with healthcare providers. This is especially true with Epic EHR solution, which holds 33% of the U.S. hospital market, according to KLAS research.
- This is not Google’s first health IT partnership with an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) software vendor. Earlier this year, Google joined hands with MEDITECH the third-largest vendor among US hospitals to embed its search and summarization tools within the software system maintained by MEDITECH. The partnership is an extension of an IT deal signed by both Google and MEDITECH EHR software in 2019 which made Expanse software the first system to be available through the Google Cloud platform.
Technology and healthcare
Technology is playing a vital role in helping providers to deliver high-quality care to their patients. Google Cloud is proactively working with payers, providers, and pharmaceutical companies in making an ecosystem that delivers the care required by people in need.
Through this valuable partnership, Epic workloads will be moved to the Google Cloud which will make way for efficiency, innovation, and security. The partnership with Epic EMR software will enable healthcare organizations to advance more options for cloud environments. The Epic EHR on Google Cloud will facilitate an efficient and secure cloud environment which will have benefits for both clinicians and patients.
